Day 3: Favorite TV show I don’t take much time for TV, and though I enjoy The Office, Arrested Development, Mad Men, Scrubs, and that bizarre/unintentionally hilarious show on Animal Planet in which people’s pets sense ghosts (I think it might be called The Haunted but I don’t care to double-check), the only show on TV that I just can’t get enough of is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  I’m highly impressed by the fact that a network TV show can continue to be hilariously crude and offensive episode after episode.  Best episodes: “The Nightman Cometh”, “The Gang Gets Extreme”, and “Paddy’s Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens”.

Day 2: Favorite Movie

The first time I saw Trainspotting, I was sixteen and I watched it with my mother and fourteen-year-old brother.  In that time, my household was pretty straight-laced, and watching graphic scenes of Ewan MacGregor shooting junk, fucking a schoolgirl, and screaming at a dead baby crawling on his ceiling was, needless to say, a bit awkward.  But I couldn’t get the movie out of my head, and four years later, after having seen Trainspotting almost thirty times, I’m still shocked and delighted every time I watch it.  I’m now an enthusiastic Irvine Welsh devotee, and it was Trainspotting that inspired my love of his writing.

I have approximately 100,000 songs in my iTunes library, so picking just one is difficult.  But if I had to narrow it down to the most glorious distillation of human talent I could think of, it would have to be The Kinks’ “Shangri-La”.  No other song, in my humble yet accurate opinion, encapsulates the way it does the highs and lows of the human experience.
